Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Namrata S Maruthi gave the information.He spoke during barren heifer inspection and animal health treatment camp organized by B.Sc (Agriculture), B.Sc (Agribusiness Management) and B.Tech (Agriculture) students of Krishi Mahavidyalaya under rural agriculture experience activity at Kenkere village of the taluk.

Bovine mastitis is a condition characterized by a persistent and inflammatory reaction of the udder tissue due to physical trauma or infection by microorganisms. It is a potentially fatal mammary gland infection that is more common in dairy cattle worldwide.It is one of the most costly diseases for the dairy industry. Infected cattle suffer from severe dehydration and weight loss. Milk yield stops completely or is severely restricted, he said. The main treatment for this, he said, is that when milking the herd, strict attention should be given to healthy, uninfected cows first and then to infected cows.




Deputy Manager, Dr. Narendra S. Budihal said, protection of animals is our responsibility. Cows, goats, sheep, chickens should be vaccinated and life insured at the right time. Cleanliness should be maintained in the cow shed. He said that cows should be given good fodder, manure, raw fodder and dry fodder on time.
