FERTILIZER ADULTERATION TEST
DEMONSTRATION, INTEGRATED NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT, COMPOST, HITECH HORTICULTURE, INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEM

The role of the Fertilizers are very important in the Indian Agriculture.

India is the second biggest consumer of fertilizer
in the world next only to China.
With the increase in consumption and its sale price, the problems of quality control have also increased. The Governments whether state or central are making efforts to control the quality of fertilizers.
A method demonstration was done on 03/12/2023 to help the farmers to know whether the fertilizers they buy are adulterated or not.
In order to check the quality of the fertilizers, the Central Fertilizer Quality Control & Training Institute (CFQCTI), Faridabad has developed a Quick Fertilizer Testing Kit. Now it is easy to detect adulteration. The farmers as well as dealers can use this Kit to check the adulteration in fertilizers. The methods of testing different fertilizers adulteration for urea, DAP, SSP were shown and explained.

Integrated nutrient management

We conducted the meeting on integrated nutrient management in collaboration with Isreal chemical Ltd on 7 december 2023.
Integrated Nutrient Management refers to the maintenance of soil fertility and of plant nutrient supply at an optimum level for sustaining the desired productivity through optimization of the benefits from all possible sources of organic, inorganic and biological components in an integrated manner.
The scope of INM encompasses a wide array of practices, including the integration of crop residues, green manures, organic wastes, and mineral fertilizers

Role of INM in India
Synchronizes the nutrient demand of the crop with nutrient supply from native and applied sources. Provides balanced nutrition to crops and minimizes the antagonistic effects resulting from hidden deficiencies and nutrient imbalance.
Improves and sustains the physical, chemical and biological functioning of soil.

COMPOST

We conducted a demonstration in our crop museum field about compost making on 11/12/23.
Compost is a mixture of ingredients used as plant fertilizer and to improve soil’s physical, chemical, and biological properties. It is commonly prepared by decomposing plant and food waste, recycling organic materials, and manure.

The resulting mixture is rich in plant nutrients and beneficial organisms, such as bacteria, protozoa, nematodes, and fungi. Compost improves soil fertility in gardens, landscaping,
horticulture, urban agriculture, and organic farming, reducing dependency on commercial chemical fertilizers.
Composting is an aerobic method of decomposing organic solid wastes, so can be used to recycle organic material.
The process involves decomposing organic material into a humus-like material, known as compost, which is a good fertilizer for plants.

HITECH HORTICULTURE
A meeting was conducted to create awareness about the Hitech horticultural practices that could be followed for the increment in income of the farmers.
These techniques maybe simple or sometimes require high cost investment for the long run like greenhouses, nursery.

Greenhouse provides optimal conditions for the growth and development of the crops so that these can be grown throughout the year.
Nursery nurtures the germinating seeds to a healthy sapling protecting from the pest and diseases and also helps in maintaining plant population in main field.

INTEGRATED FARMING SYSTEM

On 13/12/2023, a group discussion and meeting was conducted in our information centre to convey information about an integrated farming system, it’s components and its advantages.
Firstly we had an interaction session with farmers regarding the knowledge of integrated farming system components. All of them are practicing few components of integrated farming
system like crop production, sericulture, livestock rearing, poultry but none of them are practicing mushroom cultivation, bee keeping, agroforestry etc.

Hence they are very much interested to listen the topic.
General information about IFS was shared. Generally integrated farming system is defined as production of crops along with rearing of livestock, poultry, fishery, mushroom
production, bee keeping, agroforestry, mulberry cultivation, biogas production under single management condition.

Fertilizer Calculation and it’s importance

We conducted night meeting on 13/12/23 about fertilizer calculation as farmers had asked for it.
We showed them how to calculate the fertilizers to be applied using white board. It is necessary to calculate fertilizer before application to provide appropriate dosage of fertilizers.
We also explained them about Apps which helps them to calculate fertilizers easily like Plantix, Bighaat, Fertilizer calculator, Agriapp.
