World Soil Day 2023 – Soil and Water, The Source of Life

World Soil Day was organised by Reddydyavarahalli RAWE Students of College of Agriculture, GKVK, Bengaluru on 5th December. Dr A Satish, Proffesor, Dept of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, CoA, GKVK, UAS, Bengaluru presided the programme jointly organised by the ICAR; University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore; IFFCO, Karnataka State Department of Agriculture Chikkaballapura Division.

Programme was held at the MPCS Arena of Reddydyavarahalli Village of Gouribidanur Taluk. Villagers actively participated in the programme held by the students of GKVK.

Soil Sampling and Soil Testing is most Important – Dr A Satish

We have to work jointly and unitedly for to conserve our Soil and Water and for creation of 1 inch soil it will take thousands of years but a powerful Rain for destroying it. Dr A Satish also said that we have to minimise the usage of Chemical Fertilizers and maximize the use of Bio fertilizers, Compost and Vermicompost to maintain the Soil Health. He also mentioned that Soil Sampling and Testing of soil is also important which leads to judicious use of Fertilizers. He also explained the Soil Health Card and how to analyse the Nutrients in the Card. He also mentioned that Integrated Nutrient Management is the key to maintain Soil Health and Crop Rotation with Pulses which increases the Nitrogen content in the soil as Nitrogen was found deficit in the Soil Health Card.

Students also displayed and explained about the Soil Profile through a Model and about Integrated Nutrient Management

Various Competitions like Drawing, Memory Test, Quiz was organised for the Students of Government Lower Primary School, Reddydyavarahalli on account of World Soil Day on 04/12/2023 in which students excelled and prizes and certificates was given from the Dept of SS&AC, CoA, GKVK, Bengaluru. Dr Satish and the Secretary of MPCS, Reddydyavarahalli Ms Jalajakshi handed over the Certificates and prizes for the students and made the programme successful.

On a Total Note the programme was successfully held and organised by RAWE Students and Dept of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry, KSDA in which we found that around 60 farmers and 20 childrens participated and made the event successful.
