Essentially, all life depends upon the soil … There can be no life without soil and no soil without life; they have evolved together.
Keeping this in mind,we the students of University of Agricultural Sciences,GKVK, Bengaluru, celebrated World Soil Day on December 5th,2023 at Bidaluru village of Devanahalli taluk.
“Soil and Water;A Source of Life”, was the theme of this year’s Soil Day.
We started the programme by a prayer song followed by lighting lamp and by watering plant to emphasize the importance water and soil in one’s life. The programme was graciously carried out by the chief guests of the programme, Dr. Savitha C M, associate professor, Dr.Jayanthi, senior scientist, Department of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry,GKVK, Bengaluru,Dr.B Mamatha, Assistant professor, Department of soil science , GKVK ,Bengaluru.Sri Shankranna,Milk Dairy President and Sri Ramesh,Farmers community president, Sri Chikmuniswamy, progressive farmer.
Dr. Vasanthi spoke about Dryland agriculture, Dr .Mamatha informed about the Dharthi Mitra app . Importance of soil day and soil health card was also discussed.
The programme was attended by many farmers and school children.
Eassay and drawing competition were earlier conducted during the day and prices were distributed to the winners.
Charts and models were prepared on soil erosion soil helath card and soil profile.
Programme ended with vote of thanks.
