World Soil Day – AJJAWARA

World soil day celebration

World soil day was celebrated on 5 th December 2023 @ajjawara. The theme of the year is “SOIL AND WATER; THE SOURCE OF LIFE”.

Soil is an organism, it is the duty of all of us to protect the soil and maintain the health of the soil. Life starts from soil, food starts from soil. Let’s preserve its fertility and give it to our future generations as a legacy.

The objective of this program is to make people aware of soil, how to manage the ecosystem and to create awareness about the usefulness and importance of soil.
The survival of our planet depends on the precious connection between soil and water.

We celebrated the program in panchayat in the presence of Deputy Director of Agriculture Chandrakumar, Assistant Director of Agriculture Keshav Reddy, Agricultural Extension Professor GKVK Dr. MT Lakshminarayan, Agriculture Officer Ramachandra V, Panchayat Development Officer Shashikala, Agriculture Technology Institute Chikkaballapur Secretary K Ramu, Village Panchayat President Devendra, Farmers Association Secretary Gopal, Kurteva Company Representative Chetan, Atma Yojana Staff Agriculture Department Chikkaballapur.

It was a grand success where many farmers joined their hands for this auspicious occasion. They gained the knowledge regarding the soil, soil health, different techniques to prevent its erosion.

We led the program, where Keshav Reddy spoke a few words regarding the program theme. Later K Ramu spoke about how the soil health has to be maintained well with regards to the yield and income. Dr.M T Lakshminarayan from the department of agriculture extension GKVK explained the components of integrated nutrient management for the soil health.

Our rawe student Kushan Kumar A spoke in detail about the agronomical, mechanical, agrostological, forestry practices to be followed to prevent the soil erosion such as

Contour farming
Tillage
Choice of crops
Strip cropping
Mulching
Insitu moisture conservation practices.
Vegetative barriers
Grassed waterways
Cover crops
Crop rotation
Application of manures and fertilizers

Contour bunding
Graded bunding
Contour border strips
Graded border strips
Bench terracing
Zing terracing

*Non aerable structures like
Contour trenches
V trenches
Crescent bunding
Circular bunding

Chandrakumar HL, Ramachandra and Devendra discussed about various schemes related to the soil health and also gave a lot of information about the solutions to the problems faced by the farmers in field. They also stressed on the importance of soil health card and it’s components.

Kurteva company representative told soil as living entity from where the lives arise and has to be well maintained for our lives to be continued on this earth. He aslo mentioned to keep our surroundings clean.

A few farmers spoke on this occasion and shared their opinion.

On the occasion of world soil day, College of agriculture GKVK Bengaluru conducted different competitions like essay, drawing and quiz about soil. The winners were given with the prizes in the program.

The program ended with the vote of thanks and was published in the newspaper
