SOIL AND WATER: A SOURCE OF LIFE
The final year students of GKVK as a part of their Rural Agricultural Work Experience under Student Ready Programme celebrated The World Soil Day in Dandiganahalli of Devanahalli taluk on 5th of December.
The objective of celebrating World Soil Day in Dandiganahalli was to create awareness among the villagers on soil health, its importance and conservation. In order to create awareness, on the eve of World Soil Day, competitions were held for the students of Government School, Dandiganahalli .

The students enthusiastically participated in clay modelling, nature drawing and recital. Through these competitions the students learned the importance and benefits of soil.

On the dawn of World Soil Day, the students of GKVK along with the students of Govt School, Dandiganahalli went on a trans walk roaring slogans” ಇದು ಬರಿ ಮಣ್ಣಲ್ಲ ,ಹೊನ್ನು” and “ ಮಣ್ಣು ರೈತರ ಸಂಪತ್ತು,ಕೆಟ್ಟರೆ ಅದು ಆಪತ್ತು” through the streets of the village.
The official programme was scheduled at 5 pm in the school premises. Rawe Co– coordinator Dr Savitha C.M ( Dept of Agril.Extension), Dr Mamatha B ( Dept of Soil Science ) and Dr B G Vasanthi (Senior scientist, AICRP ) Mr. Munibyrappa, Former Gram Panchayati President and Mrs Manjula, Gram Panchayati member were cordially invited as the chief guests.

The programme was inaugurated with the song” ಮಣ್ಣಿOದ ಕಾಯ ಮಣ್ಣಿOದ” by the students of GKVK followed by the watering of plants.

Dr Mamatha B addressed the farmers on the importance of proper dosage of fertilizer application. She also briefed about the consequences of soil erosion and suggested remedies and measures to be taken to improve soil health.
Dr B G Vasanthi briefed about soil and moisture conservation methods along with protecting the soil for the future generations. She also addressed the farmers about the effects of pollution on soil health and enlightened the villagers on the benefits of organic farming.
Mr Munibyrappa, a progressive farmer appreciated our efforts on creating awareness on soil health and shared the methods that he has implemented in his field to minimize soil pollution and soil erosion.

Prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners of various competitions and as a token of appreciation all the participants were provided with stationeries.

The programme was concluded by words of gratitude followed by a group photo.
