Pomegranate planting

A farmer named Keshava gave us the opportunity to plant the pomegranate saplings in their orchard. We learnt how to plant them and also had an interaction with the farmer.

Trichoderma and pseudomonas were being used while planting. The mechanisms by which Trichoderma reduces the occurrence of plant diseases include the competition for nutrients and space, synthesis of antifungal metabolites, mycoparasitism, production of lytic enzymes that degrade cell walls of fungal plant pathogens, as well as induction of plant resistance.

The farmer says that he bought the plantings from Maharashtra company called as Jain. Also he adds that the Bhagava variety is resistant to wilt and yields the highest compared to other variety. Trichoderma, pseudomonas, neem cake are added to the pit before planting. The spacing followed here is 11 x 7 1/2 feet. The planting starts to bear fruits within 1 year but it is advisable to remove all the flowers during the first year as it needs to establish well and good at its vegetative state.
