General meeting
A General Meeting to Discuss Future Activities in the Village for Farmers and RAWE Students
On a bright and promising morning, the community of our village gathered in a spirit of unity and enthusiasm. Farmers, as the backbone of our community, and students from the Rural Agricultural Work Experience (RAWE) program came together to address and discuss the future activities that will shape our village’s growth and prosperity.
The village square was abuzz with anticipation as we all settled down, a vibrant mix of young and old, each carrying a unique perspective on our village’s development. Our village has always thrived on agriculture, and the hardworking farmers have contributed to our sustenance for generations. The RAWE students, on the other hand, bring fresh ideas and energy to help us adapt to changing times.
The meeting opened with warm welcomes and expressions of gratitude. The village elders, with their years of experience, set the tone for the meeting by acknowledging the crucial role farmers play in providing for our community. They emphasized the importance of passing down traditional farming wisdom while being open to new methods and technologies.
Next, the RAWE students, who have been immersed in the latest agricultural techniques and trends, shared their insights and experiences. They spoke about the need for sustainable farming practices, the potential benefits of crop diversification, and the importance of engaging with the wider agricultural community.
As the meeting progressed, the discussion turned to upcoming activities and projects. Both farmers and students eagerly shared their ideas and suggestions. It was heartening to witness the enthusiasm of the RAWE students as they offered to organize workshops on modern farming techniques, sustainable practices, and even the use of technology in agriculture. The farmers, in turn, voiced their willingness to mentor and work closely with the students, recognizing that a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation is the path to our village’s success.
The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of unity and shared purpose. It was clear that, by working together and combining the wisdom of our experienced farmers with the fresh perspective of the RAWE students, our village is poised for growth and prosperity. We left the gathering with a deep sense of hope for the future, knowing that our collective efforts will continue to nurture the lifeblood of our community—agriculture. With this newfound collaboration, we are determined to ensure a sustainable and vibrant future for our beloved village, where the generations of tomorrow can thrive.
In the days to come, we will see the fruits of this collaboration as our village embarks on a journey of growth, sustainability, and progress, hand in hand with its dedicated farmers and the enthusiastic RAWE students. Together, we are sowing the seeds of a brighter future for our community.
PRA ; Praticipatory Rural Appraisal
Participatory rural appraisal (PRA) is an approach used by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and other agencies involved in international development. The approach aims to incorporate the knowledge and opinions of rural people in the planning and management of development projects and programmes.

Overview of techniques
Over the years techniques and tools have been described in a variety of books and newsletters, or taught at training courses. However, the field has been criticized for lacking a systematic evidence-based methodology.
The basic techniques used include:
- Understanding group dynamics, e.g. through learning contracts, role reversals, feedback sessions
- Surveying and sampling, e.g. transect walks, wealth ranking, social mapping
- Interviewing, e.g. focus group discussions, semi-structured interviews, triangulation
- Community mapping, e.g. Venn diagrams, matrix scoring, ecograms, timelines
To ensure that people are not excluded from participation, these techniques avoid writing wherever possible, relying instead on the tools of oral communication and visual communication such as pictures, symbols, physical objects and group memory.[15] Efforts are made in many projects, however, to build a bridge to formal literacy; for example by teaching people how to sign their names or recognize their signatures. Often developing communities are reluctant to permit invasive audio-visual recording.
